في تطور خطير وغير مسبوق، أعلنت قيادة قوات تحالف دعم الشرعية في اليمن مساء الخميس 27 اكتوبر أن قوات الدفاع الجوي اعترضت صاروخا باليستيا أطلقته المليشيات الحوثية في اتجاه منطقة مكة المكرمة.

وقالت قيادة التحالف في بيان أوردته وكالة الأنباء السعودية (واس) أن الصاروخ أطلق من محافظة صعدة وتمكن الدفاع الجوي من اعتراضه وتدميره على بعد 65 كلم من مكة المكرمة. وأضاف البيان أنه تم استهداف موقع إطلاق الصاروخ من قبل قوات التحالف.
